Audio Log Anonymizer v1.0 beta

Today, I am very pleased to announce the release of the Audio Log Anonymizer!

In an era where record companies deem personal copying (for instance, to transfer one's music from CD onto an Ipod) to be a violation of their copyrights, it is a travesty of personal privacy that many audio extraction programs (EAC, XLD) include full path information in their log files, including the user's home directory, thereby revealing their name. This utility will recursively scan directories for files ending in .log, identify if they are audio extraction logs and then remove path information from these files.

The software is written in the C# language and has been tested using the Mono runtime on Ubuntu Linux. It is released as free software under the GPL version 3.

The source is available on Launchpad at https://launchpad.net/ala but, for those running Ubuntu Linux, I have created a package in a ppa for your easy consumption. Here are instructions:

  1. At a command prompt, import my kefile by using: sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 7923D35A
  2. Add this line to your /etc/apt/sources.list file: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/martineve/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
  3. Finally, run: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ala

Tada! You can now just use 'ala' (no quotes) at the command prompt.

Please report any bugs, send me any log files that don't parse correctly (or new formats you'd like anonymized) in a bug report and, of course, DO NOT FORGET TO MANUALLY BACKUP BEFORE USING. This is beta software.
